Hey. What's up. Hello!
Today's review is over The King's Questioner by Nikki Katz which releases January 14th of next month... next year... of next decade.... Yeah. Mind blown. Ha. Anyway I'm gonna keep this pretty simple and quick. Not only because I have a literal million things to do.... the list is every growing... but I also have not a lot to report on this book. So let's start.
This was a very middle of the road read for me. The plot was decent but predictable. The characters were good but I feel like everything involving them moved quickly and I was left with a lot of questions. And the ending..... was just sub par. I feel like this book, which was only 290 some pages long.... really needed to be longer... it read like a short story and not a novel unfortunately. I believe I have an idea of what I think the author was envisioning.... but I think it just fell flat. Overall the book had a lot of potential to really grab and keep a person enthralled in the story, it had all the ingredients for a truly unique and well constructed story. I cared about the characters and their quest.... but it was like I blinked and everyone baed up and was in love. Not only that but it was like cross the ocean, dabble a bit in one town, ambush, escape, cross the ocean more, finally find Reign, convince Reign to come, journey home, beat the bad guy... the end. Everything about this plot felt super basic and rushed. It was a bummer of a read because I liked what I was reading but I wanted so much more for it as a whole.
I'm giving The King's Questioner two and a half stars because the book needed polishing and some more fluff or detailed construction. It will not keep me from reading more by Katz in the future because I do see her potential as a writer but I will say that I'm not sure how I feel about it being her second book.... little troublesome.
These pages take me places and I cannot wait to see where I go next!
All my love!
